Winkelman for Governor

We missed you at the Big Campaign Rally on Angel Island.  But check out the pictures.

On August 17, 2003, Ranger Dan Winkelman electrified the California political establishment by emerging from retirement.  No, not professionally - he's still a retired California Park Ranger.  But Dan is now a declared write-in candidate for Governor of California.  (Hey, isn't everyone?)

As an experienced candidate - he ran a well-publicized campaign for President on the Peace and Quiet ticket in 2000 - Dan is all set to run.  (Well, at least amble.)  The campaign machinery is in place, and only needs a few small tweaks ...

The candidate's announcement received widespread media coverage.*

(Note: Hire press secretary soonest.)

Dan's 2000 Presidential Campaign

Beginning in October, 1998, Ranger Dan Winkelman was occasionally featured in a local comic strip called 'FARLEY' by Phil Frank. The strip runs daily in the San Francisco Chronicle and introduced Ranger Dan as a candidate for president, running on the 'Peace and Quiet' ticket. His campaign slogan is "I'm out of it and proud of it."

The series appears to have ended with the end of the presidential election in 2000 and Ranger Dan's retirement from State Park Service on September 1, 2001.  There were a total of 86 cartoons published. The SF Chronicle featured Dan in an article about his retirement.

The Tiburon League of Women Boaters (a.k.a. the Tiburon Yacht Club) sponsored a Presidential Candidates' debate Saturday, September 16, 2000 at 2 pm.  Since Al Gore and George W. Bush didn't show up to debate Ranger Dan, he faced off against his puppets......
