The Software Toolworks logo®


The Software Toolworks started in 1980 as a publisher of software for Heath/Zenith personal computers. Early products included MYCHESS®, The Original Adventure, and the C/80 C compiler for CP/M. In 1994, The Software Toolworks was renamed Mindscape.

Among its most successful software titles were The Chessmaster® and Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing®. The Toolworks also created the Miracle Piano Teaching System.

The Miracle Piano Teaching System was supported by Jump Software, but they are gone.
Many other products were acquired by The Learning Company, but they are gone..
